Tatzlwurm legend

The dragon „Tatzlwurm“ in the kloof.

The most reknown landmark at the Tatzlwurm are the famous waterfalls. During the centuries, pilgrims from the Inn valley used to follow the dangerous path along the Auerbach river. Passing by the waterfall, the soaring of the foaming waters made them hear the roaring voice of a giant dragon luring in the hidden cave. In the cave the dragon Tatzlwurm stored a secret treasure of gold, silver and jewels. The waterfalls with their 95 m altitute made it nearly impossible for knights to attack the dragon.

In the cave the dragon Tatzlwurm stored a secret treasure of gold, silver and jewels. The waterfalls with their 95 m altitute made it nearly impossible for knights to attack the dragon.

Although nobody has ever survived an attack of the dragon the local people believed that the Tatzlwurm exits. His giant mouth, claws and his ability to spit fire made made the Tatzlwurm reknown as invincible creature.

Nobody knows why the dragon has never been seen since the 1950s. Modern pilgims do no pass by the waterfalls any more. Instead they drive by car oder bus. Maybe the dragon could simply find no more “food” and retured in his deep cave, waiting for the pilgrims to return.
